You are running Adblock. We're really sorry for the inconvenience, but please would you disable your ad-blocker? Our adverts are relevant and non-intrusive, they appear only at the top and the sides, never in the content. They don't include auto-playing audio either, they really won't spoil your enjoyment of the site.

'I'm not running an ad-blocker!' - 'Why are you doing this?' - Frankly we're struggling to make ends meet here especially since the site got more popular. The only way we can think to cover our costs is to run ads, but if so many of you keep blocking them. 'But I never click ads!'
- Doesn't matter, you should only click them if they interest you. We get paid based on the number of views AND the number of clicks. 'You ruined the site!!!1! I want to send you hate mail!!' - Another fact - We have the software and the power to completely block adblock users from our site, but we're not going to, at least for now.
We figure most of you would like to support us and you only installed Adblock because of other sites that aren't so considerate with their ad placement. Please, don't punish us because of them, in the seven or so years I've been a blogger/webmaster I've ALWAYS considered the need to balance monetisation with reader experience. I want to build an audience not send them away. So go on, whitelist us and any other site you love.
If it wasn't for ads, the internet would lose a whole chunk of really great niche content like this, which would be a real shame in our opinion. Now, go ahead and read the page if you want to, but wouldn't it be much more convenient if you just whitelisted us?:). Genre: Strategy Release Year: 1999 Developer: MicroProse Publisher: Hasbro Interactive Age Rating: Parental Advisory Playability Status: Perfect Tested On: Windows 8 x64 Availability: Copyright retained - Out of print/unavailable In video gaming history, there have been few games that can stand the test of time better than the Civilization series. Set from the dawn of humanity right up until the colonization of space, there are players who are still. Of course, time hasn’t stood still in the real world since Civilization 2 launched and this has caused complications for many gamers who still want to play the classic title. Fortunately, with a little tweaking, Civilization 2 can be made to run on modern PCs. In this guide we’ll show you how to get this classic title playing again on your modern PC.
Any game which can last so long and inspire peoples imagination surely deserves our attention to help keep it running, after all. A note about different versions of the game Like many of the more popular PC games, there were several different versions of Civilization 2 released.
The versions we will be looking at in this guide are the “Test of Time” edition and the “Multiplayer Gold” edition. These versions were available separately and as part of the “Chronicles” boxed set. Earlier versions of the game use a 16-bit executable file and will not load on newer (64 bit) versions of Windows, so keep that in mind if you find a second hand copy of the game anywhere. Full details on all the different versions of the game are available. Reddit user Lycerius’ dystopian decade-old Civilization 2 game continues to inspire new and old fans of the title. Lets just hope it doesn’t turn out to be prophetic. Civilization 2 will install on modern PCs without any particular issues.
We recommend that you install outside of your regular “Program files” or “Program files (x86)” folder however. The reasons for this are two-fold.
Civilization 2 Multiplayer Gold Free Download
Firstly, like many old games, Civilization 2 needs permission to write to its installation directory. By installing to a user created folder outside of the regular program files folder, you will not need to concern yourself with setting folder permissions manually later. Secondly, patching the game can be awkward when it is installed in a location with a long folder path.
Users installing the game from the Civilization Chronicles boxed set should pay particular attention to this. The Civilization Chronicles installer will install the game to “C: Program Files (x86) Sid Meier’s Civilization Chronicles Sid Meier’s Civilization II Multiplayer Gold” by default. This path is so long that it is difficult to navigate to in the patching program. Select “Custom” installation instead and install the game to “C: Games Civilization 2 MP Gold” for instance. Patching Before you start playing either Civilization 2 Test of Time or Multiplayer Gold, you should install the official patches. For Multiplayer Gold, download and install the patch available.
For Test of Time, use the patch available. The Test of Time patch isn’t needed if you have the Civilization Chronicles version of the game. To run Civilization 2 on a 64 bit PC, you will need to use the Civ2xp64Patcher by Masterx. You can download this tool.
The tool works with both Test of time and Multiplayer Gold versions of the game. The picture below shows the tool running. To use the tool, click on the “” button (highlighted in yellow in the picture).
You then need to find the “civ2.exe” file to patch. Browse to the games installation directory and locate this file.
Then, simply click “Patch”. If you have selected the correct file, the patch will be applied instantly. Playing the game You are now ready to start playing Civilization 2 on your modern PC. Start the game in the usual way and make sure you have an hour or two (or the better part of a decade) to spare for this engrossing strategy game. If you have issues running the game, check the troubleshooting section at the end of the article. Multiplayer If both you and a friend have some time to while away, then how about a game of Civilization 2 multiplayer? The game can be played over your home network, the internet or in hot-seat mode (taking it in turns on the same PC).
To play over the internet, you will need to know your IP address, you can easily find this out by visiting a page such as. If you have issues connecting you may need to configure your router/firewall to forward port 4993 to the computer hosting the game.
Unfortunately, details of how to do this vary between routers. For more information on multiplayer games,. Troubleshooting Game runs to quickly or consumes excessive CPU time:- In this case, try the CPU throttle fix available at Civfanatics. Game music does not play:- This can occur on computers with two or more optical drives.

When installing and playing Civilization 2, make sure to run the game from the drive with the first drive letter. So for instance if you have a DVD drive on drive letter E: and a DVD-Writer on drive F:, the Civilization 2 CD-ROM must be placed in the DVD drive (letter E:). If you are running the Civilization Chronicles version of the game, then according to the documentation that comes with this product, you need to insert the second CD in order to hear the soundtrack.
However, we could find no evidence of any CD audio on either the first or the second disk of the boxed set, so in actual fact the Civilization Chronicles version of the game does not have the CD soundtrack at all. Videos do not play:- Civilization 2 uses the now obsolete Intel Indeo video codec for its video files.
This codec is known to be problematic on more modern systems. We recommend installing the FFDShow video codec pack to enable playback of the games video files. The download link should be in a blue box on the right of the page.
Make sure to download a 32 bit version (even if you have a 64 bit version of Windows). If videos still wont play in-game, try setting the compatibility options to run the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2). Finally, try starting the game as administrator. While the original Civilization was created by Sid Meier, Brian Reynolds takes Meier's original design and improves upon it to create Sid Meier's Civilization II. Reynolds can do no wrong with this great sequel, a game by which all others of this genre will be judged. It is an incredible and very addictive game; once you start playing you won't want to stop. Every gamer should play through the tutorial first as it teaches you the basics and is very helpful. When you begin a new game, there are an impressive number of options from which to choose. Customizable features include the size of the world, number of terrain squares, land formation (islands or large continents), climate, temperature, age of the world, difficulty level (six to choose from), level of competition (up to six opponents) and level of barbarian activity.
There are historical tribes to choose from or you can customize your own. All of these options alone make this a great game with incredible replay value.
Computer opponents add a lot to the game. Each has its own goals, although usually they revolve around militaristic objectives. Different strategies can lead to different responses from each of the computer opponents.
If you build powerful armies, they will probably keep their distance. If you concentrate on education, they will threaten you because their people will become jealous. The number of advancements for your civilization is also very impressive: 80 plus.
Advancements range from horseback riding or literacy to mobile warfare or computers. Another great feature is when you reach certain advancements your civilization can begin building a particular Wonder of the World, all of which have significant impacts. Isaac Newton's college doubles a city's science output while the Statue of Liberty allows you to select any government at any time.
Each Wonder of the World has its own video and, in many cases, full-motion video. Running a civilization is a lot of work.
Each city must be managed individually, although they all contribute to the civilization. Changing governments also keeps the game fresh, as each government is viewed differently by the population. Moving around the map is very easy - simply use the arrow keys.
The battles occur as one piece moves into a square occupied by the enemy. Sound effects are very well done as you can hear the clashing of swords as legions attack or listen to the bombs dropping as a Stealth fighter makes an attack. Civilization II begins in the year 4000 BC and ends when any one of three conditions are met: reach the year 2020, conquer the entire world or advance technology to the point where a spaceship reaches another planet. You will want to play Civilization II over and over, as every game is different. Also included are a couple of pre-set scenarios to play out and a map editor, allowing you to build the perfect world. Graphics: Nicely detailed military units. Sound: Variety of music to select from.

Enjoyment: Very addictive. Replay Value: Every game is different. Time for a HIGH QUALITY game. This is one of the best games ever made in my opinion.
If you have played Civilization (or even Colonization) you know the layout, but for the rest of you, here we go; You start out yr. With a small group of settlers and a covered map.
First thing you need to do, is to find a good location where to place your first city. From there you have to develop the land and research new technologies.
As the game progresses you also have to start building an army, to defend yourself from any neighbors with hostile intentions. You can face up to 6 computer-controlled civilizations during the game, and each of them has their unique behavior. Any actions you take towards one of them, might give you a bad reputation, making the others less friendly towards you, and if you are really careless, they will start forming alliances against you. You have several difficulty levels, ranging from very easy, to the once where the computer actually cheats. What differs THIS version from other Civilization 2, is that is has MULTIPLAYER support. The game ends in 3 different ways; Either you are the first nation to send a craft to another star, or you can just simply kill everyone else. The third is if you fail to do any of this before a certain year. Better not give more away. But I'll tell you.
It's much more fun when played against a human;) Now go and get your own opinion! People who downloaded Civilization 2 have also downloaded:, ©2018 San Pedro Software Inc. Contact:, done in 0.002 seconds.
Sid Meier's Civilization II: Multiplayer Gold Edition A special edition of Sid Meier's Civilization II. This version of the game came with a highly-anticipated multiplayer mode.
In Multiplayer Gold Edition gameplay remains the same - we still lead a chosen civilization over the centuries to world domination by military or economical conquest. As previously, the players must focus not only on the expansion of their cities, technological advancement, and the creation of a proper political system, but also diplomatic relations with other countries and world exploration. Along with the standard in-game content of the base game, Sid Meier's Civilization II: Multiplayer Gold Edition comes with the 39 scenarios from the Fantastic Worlds and Conflicts in Civilization expansions. Seven people can play in multiplayer mode through LAN, Internet, or on one computer in the hotseat mode. A collector issue of Civilization II that combines all the products in the series released up to that point.
It also comes with a long-awaited multiplayer mode. The mechanics and goals remain the same. Choosing one civilization, we have to lead it to technological advancement and expand in the surrounding territory.
One must also remember that infrastructure is key to sending a spaceship into the space or building an army mighty enough to eliminate our rivals. Apart from the original game, the collector edition contains 39 scenarios that were included in the previous add-ons: Fantastic Worlds and Conflicts in Civilization. Apart from that, Multiplayer Gold edition comes with a special editor for creating maps and units, as well as the multiplayer mode for up to 7 players via LAN, the Internet or by switching seats.
From time to time I've noticed questions about running Civilization 2 on Windows 7 (both in General Discussion, and this forum), although the problems seem to be with 64 bit operating systems. The purpose of this thread is to present different options for running the game in one location, so that the information is easy to find. To keep this thread short and easy to read, please do not seek technical support for implementing these options in this thread. If you have a game of Civilization 2, the first thing to do is establish exactly what game you have.
The early versions of Civ 2 are 16 bit programs, which will not run directly on 64 bit Windows Operating Systems. 'Classic' Civ 2 (also known as 'Vanilla' or version 2.42) is a 16 bit game, and I think that Fantastic Worlds is also (but I'm not sure). Windows will not even install these games. Th later versions of Civ 2, Multiplayer Gold Edition and Test of Time, are 32 bit programs. These will install on 64 bit Windows, but have a bug with text boxes.
If you have a 32 bit version of the program, should fix your problem. If you have a 16 bit version, you have the following options: 1. Upgrade to Multiplayer Gold Edition. (and some that follow it) in the Mastermind patch thread explains how to upgrade to MGE if you have a classic disk. Is a more detailed tutorial. You might find a disk online somewhere.
Or, sells a downloadable version for 5 Pounds. You will get Civ 1 with it as a bonus. I purchased from this site, and didn't have any trouble beyond applying Mastermind's Patch. Use virtualization software to run a different operating system. You can then play classic and avoid the hostile AI. These options are more difficult.
Upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, then use Virtual PC to run XP mode. This will probably be expensive. Acronis true image 2014 winrar file download. I personally use this method, but only because my university offered the upgrade for free. When all is said and done, it is very convenient to use, but upgrading the computer may require tech support.
Use other virtualization software. Describes a method to get classic civ 2 to work using free (open source) software. If you have other methods, or want to describe these methods in more detail, feel free to reply.
However, please direct actual tech support questions to other threads so that this one remains easy to read. I just wanted to post the steps I followed to get Civ II MGE to work on a Windows 7 (64 bit) laptop with no CD (or CD drive)-I did need to have a Windows XP computer and CD drive available for this to work. Download Virtualbox. (It is produced by Oracle.) It is free. It works like a charm. Create a virtual computer running XP. There are lots of YouTube videos on how to do this.
I had the original XP install discs but ended up downloading an XP iso from a Torrent site as it was easier than trying to create one on my own or install from the discs. It took me a few trys to get it right, but I am the impatient type who did not read the directions that came with the program first.
Once I figured out what I was doing, it took about 5 minutes to create the virtual computer and about 10 minutes to install the XP iso. Once the virtual XP drive is created and the virtual computer is created, install Guest Additions to Virtual Box (it comes with the Virtualbox download but requires a separate step to activate it. Then, using your Civ2 disc, install Civ 2 from inside the virtual computer. It is fully functional, including all videos, and runs super quick. Once set up, the virtual computer is available anytime you start it, and does not require any updating or reinstalling. The files to create it reside on your fixed disc.
Just remember to shut down the XP virtual machine using the start button, so that the RAM is released back to the Host computer. I have an Asus G73 quad-core Win7 64-bit laptop. This is the 'Host' computer. The 'Guest' computer is an Win-XP with a the recommended virtual hard drive and virtual RAM, and runs with two of my four cores.
All of these settings are customizable when you first create the virtual machine, and before you install the XP iso. One last thing and the reason for editing. The Host computer is fully functional also, while the Guest XP computer is running, but the RAM and hard drive space that you allocated to it are not available to the Host while the virtual computer is running.
So if you have 8 gigs of RAM and allocated 1 gig to the virtual computer, your Host will run with 7 gigs as long as the Guest is running, but the Host returns to 8 gigs as soon as you shut down and turn off the Guest computer via the start button inside the Guest computer.
